FutureCorp & The Whitman International Cultural Center
FutureCorp
FutureCorp is an exercise in understanding complex systems. It operates in more than 60 countries through seven licensees, six regional export sales organizations and employs over 25,000 people. The company is composed of interdependent businesses and departments, but each has the same imperative to develop sustainable strategic advantage through the introduction of triple bottom line practices. FutureCorp leaders are faced with a changing world where the creation of economic value must also be environmentally, socially and culturally viable to create a triple bottom line. FutureCorp is a practice field that enables participants to develop as managers and as strategists.
The Whitman International Cultural Center
The Whitman International Cultural Center is a not-for-profit arts organization consisting of a museum, theater company and community center with educational outreach, marketing and support services. Teams address the challenges of shaping the future direction of an organization struggling to redefine itself and shape a future that is creative, generative and possible. They must partner to effectively and creatively position WICC for a more interconnected, interdependent and digital world. WICC focuses participants on the challenge of leading creative enterprise, developing cultural assets across platforms and innovating practice to insure that they can meet the challenge of change. WICC is a practice field that enables participants to develop as managers and as strategists.
All participants learn how to:
Lead and manage more strategically in a complex organizational setting which requires negotiating shared goals and specifying clear outcomes.
Identify internal challenges that can derail organizational success.
Use external threats to find opportunities to innovate.
Make decisions and take actions collaboratively across divisional interests.
Communicate to engage and commit others.
Navigate and lead organizational change.
These programs provide participants with a realistic leadership practice field. They replicate the conditions of day to day organizational life and participants learn how to lead and influence in an organization not unlike their own. In a highly pressurized two day experience, participants deal with ambiguity and make difficult decisions in a complex network of relationships. As a result, they leave the programs with a deeply experienced understanding about how their leadership style can impact their organizations, their colleagues, and their own career success.
FutureCorp and The Whitman International Cultural Center (WICC) are ideal for developing new leaders and for enabling technical leaders to become more strategic. Every participant takes a senior leadership role and every participant learns how challenging and complex running a successful organization really is. Participants leave with a plan for personal and professional development including key strengths and stretch steps. Each participant receives a leadership profile which highlights their strategic management style and identifies their preferred ways of making decisions, working with a team or group and influencing others. The programs include an optional pre and post coaching component for all participants.
FutureCorp and WICC can also be used with an internal group to set up an ongoing team responsible for specific projects post simulation. If used this way, there is an opportunity to coach participants into their new roles, providing them with a practice field for goal setting and decision making and enabling them with a peer to peer coaching process that can help them achieve sustained success.
